the Good, the Bad, & the Rusty- This old house and all her stuff Part 2

My daughter on an old bike we found. I find so many things here that I'm planning to build an entire playground out of junk!

Hellooo and happy Monday! (I'm sorry this blog post is late again, Mondays are usually somewhat busy for me so I need to change around my schedule a bit to get these posts written on time). I hope you're ready for part two of the Good, the Bad, & the Rusty - as promised. Today I want to show you the most important part of our home when it comes down to why we chose her. You're probably going to think we are crazy, I can hear it now, "THIS was the deciding factor on why you BOUGHT her??"  Yeah, we are a bit crazy, but in the words of Alice when the Mad Hatter asked if he'd gone mad, "...I shall tell you a secret, the best people usually are."😘

So, when I say this is the deciding factor, what I mean specifically, is the amount of land we got, and also the topography (how flat it was, whether there was vegetation, etc). We were interested in another house, one I like to call The House on the Hill because, well it was on a hill (the entire property was on a slant). It was very cute and charming, but I just couldn't imagine walking up a hill at 80 to get to my car. Our home has a fairly level ground but there's a lot of work to be done which is what put her in our price range in the first place. Meaning the junk was a deciding factor as well. Sometimes you need to be flexible to get what you want, This is the part where you see what I meant when I said "the beauty in all her flaws". She's not perfect, but the most beautiful beings are never perfect are they?

I'll start off by giving you an idea of what you'd see around our property. The first two pictures are of my husband with the kids. On sunny days we take walks around the yard and see what we discover. The tractor roller (not sure if that's the official name) makes a good resting spot and the kids were super excited about a tree frog their dad found. Underneath you'll see the junk. Various broken down cars and large metal pieces call this place home. It's a scrappers dream. The middle piece I can't really call junk, it was a hit at our last bbq.
(Just a disclosure: The children do not play unattended near any dangerous objects, our front yard is free and clear for them to play in and they only venture into the back with an adult chaperoning them)

My father was a mechanic and is a lover of classic cars, so I most definitely have a soft spot for vehicles. My daughter with an oldie covered in moss. Next you see my personal favorite, to see her was to love her and my husband was warned not to dare even think about selling her. My dad actually  got it started but said there was water in the engine. Below is the old tractor and a boat that looks good from the outside but is all molded and flooded on the inside.

I almost forgot this picture. The first pic and the one right below it are the right back side of our yard, where the horses, Shadow and Storm, graze. They are very sweet, Shadow is very obedient, Storm is more like her name. She's the type that as soon as I groom her she rolls around in the dirt just to spite me lol. The second picture is of the middle of our yard, you can really get an idea of the amount of junk we have in this picture. Everything from old fridges, to the large metal pieces, to just plain old garbage, all of which we inherited with the purchase of the home. The LDS missionaries that walk through the neighborhood asked if they could help with any work that needs to be done, I'm seriously thinking of taking them up on it lol. Here the goats are running after us, they like to follow us on our walks, they are our herd. The last pic is the front left side of our property. Open and spacious, its where I'm planning to plant a huge garden eventually.

Where the animals live. My husbands favorite rooster Canelo. He has his own cage next to one of the sheds, and loves rolling in the dirt, much like my horse Storm. The second picture is of the inside of one of the sheds where we keep the 28 chicks we have. There's a little doggy door where they can get out into the yard but we have to keep watch because there are dogs and coyotes that like to eat small animals. Then you see the goats area which is a little fenced in area with places to hide and climb, but they prefer staying out and about in the yard during the day. And that's our first pig Bella (we also have 2 brown pigs with spots). She is the leader of the pack and can be super mischievous. We had to block her in with tires found around the property because she kept getting out of her pen. You might be able to tell she's missing an ear from getting hurt on one of her escapades.

Sheds sheds sheds. These are our rustic looking outbuildings. The second one is my favorite and I really wish I had gotten a better picture of it, what was I thinking with that angle?? I love the majestic looking moss and vines growing up the side. I recently found that beautiful rustic but super heavy ladder in the far end of our backyard and am looking for a way to incorporate it into the décor. The pretty blue widows shown underneath are different sides of the sheds pictured above them. You'll see these sheds in a lot of my Instagram pictures. They are filled to the brim with old books, furniture, and tools, and we actually have 3 more not pictured

Where fairies used to live. I saved the best for last. These are my magical spaces and the pictures do not do them justice. The last picture is actually across the street but I had to add it because it still brings so much beauty to my home. Something about these sets of trees feels whimsical and enchanted. Just sitting by them, looking at them, makes me feel tranquil and dreamy.

These last two pictures are two of my most favorite things. My tire swing which my husband built for me, sits right outside my front window. I can imagine my kids playing on it for years to come, I hope they keep a special memory of building it with their dad. All four of them were here that day and I sent them into the yard to look for "the perfect tire" for my swing. Then they helped their dad hang it up. I think I swing on it more than they do but it is mine after all. Lastly, we live next to an abandoned house, imagine that. We didn't know about it when we decided to purchase the property, just thought it was an old shed belonging to the next house over. No one wants to live next to an abandoned property but it's actually very quaint and the land is lovely. Apparently its been empty for years but it does have an owner. Don't tell anyone, but we're hoping to buy it someday if the owner will give it up😉. It's the perfect house to fix up for my parents!

Thanks for joining me on this somewhat reflective tour of our home! Do you think you could live with this much junk?? Leave a comment and let me know what the most interesting parts of your home are!
